Umut Tohumcu's first goal involvement for the TSG professionals came as a 13-year-old - albeit in a roundabout way. As a ball boy in the match against FC Bayern Munich (2:0), he made sure that Andrej Kramarić was able to quickly execute a throw-in that led to Mark Uth's goal. He has been part of TSG Hoffenheim since 2017 after moving to the Kraichgau from the youth ranks of SC Freiburg. The German youth international made his Bundesliga debut in Mönchengladbach in May 2022, and six months later he joined the professional squad on a permanent basis. Seven years after his indirect goal contribution, he was able to celebrate his first own goal for the professionals when he equalised in stoppage time in the Europa League match against Olympique Lyon.
