How time flies: Five years since Kramarić joined TSG

Andrej Kramarić is a record-setter. He has already scored 88 competitive goals for TSG Hoffenheim, 75 of them in the Bundesliga. And in January, the TSG striker made history by overtaking Ivica Olic (72 goals) as the highest-scoring Croat in the German top flight. His first goal in the blue and white of TSG Hoffenheim came exactly five years ago today.

It was on 13 February 2016 that the Croatia international scored his first goal for the club – away to SV Werder Bremen on Matchday 21 of the 2015/16 campaign. The striker had only arrived at TSG Hoffenheim from Premier League club Leicester City – initially on loan – a few weeks earlier. But by his third match, the now 29-year-old was already showing why sporting director Alexander Rosen had been so keen to bring him to the Kraichgau.

Kramarić's debut goal for TSG came when he headed home a pinpoint cross from Tobias Strobl. But the striker did not finish the game, which ended 1-1; having opening his account for the club, he was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 77th minute – the one and only time to date he has seen red since arriving in Sinsheim. And yet 13 February 2016 was still the launchpad for an extremely successful career at TSG Hoffenheim for Kramarić. The Croat has now found the net against 22 Bundesliga clubs, and has scored at least once against every team.

But the new signing from the Premier League was not the only one to make his debut in the match against Werder Bremen. There was a new man in the dugout too, following the resignation of Huub Stevens as head coach due to ill health. Two days prior to the clash with the Green & Whites, TSG appointed the youngest-ever coach in the Bundesliga, Julian Nagelsmann. The rest is history. Under Nagelsmann, TSG – in part thanks to the goals of Andrej Kramarić – managed to keep their place in the division and qualified for the Champions League for the first time ever the following season thanks to a fourth-placed finish.
