Günter: ''We're on the right track''

Left-back Christian Günter is a stalwart for SC Freiburg, having spent 14 years at the club. Ahead of the clash with TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday (15:30 CET), the 27-year-old spoke to tsg-hoffenheim.de about Freiburg's run of form before Christmas, the recent meetings with TSG and Saturday's match-up.

Before the break you won three games in a row in the Bundesliga. Did the break perhaps come at a slightly inopportune moment for you?

''When you go on a good run, of course you want to keep playing. But it was a short break and now we want to continue our success in the game against Hoffenheim.''

What do you make of your season so far? What are your goals?

''We weren't able to get the points we were looking for at the start of the season. We put in a few good performances, but we wasted too many chances. The busy week before Christmas in which we got nine points was very important for us. It has put us in a very good position now. Our goal remains staying in the division. We want to achieve that as soon as possible, and we're on the right track.''

You won both matches against TSG last season. What made the difference in those games?

''These games are always close ones, in which small details make the difference. That was certainly the case in both fixtures last season. We scored goals at the right time and were able to get the wins by keeping a cool head.''

What will it come down to on Saturday?

''I'm expecting another close game. Small details will prove decisive. Hoffenheim have immense quality in their squad. We're well aware of this. If we play well without the ball, there's a chance we can go home with something on Saturday.''
