David Raum leaves TSG

Germany international David Raum has left TSG Hoffenheim after one season to join Bundesliga rivals RB Leipzig. The 24-year-old left-back signed a new deal in January which extended his contract with the Kraichgau-based club by a year until 2026.

David Raum joined TSG on a free transfer from Bundesliga 2 side SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the summer of 2021 as a newly-crowned U21 European champion. After participating in the Olympic Games in Tokyo, he quickly developed into a regular fixture on the left flank in the Kraichgau. Not long after moving to the club, Raum's performances in a TSG shirt earned him his first call-up to Hansi Flick's Germany side.

"David has written a modern-day football fairy-tale during his time with us and of course we regret his departure from a footballing point of view. Our unequivocal stance right from the beginning was that we would only let a player like this leave at this point in time if our income from the transfer noticeably exceeded the sum that would have been guaranteed to us by a clause in the contract that would be triggered by a transfer offer next summer," says TSG director of football Alexander Rosen, adding: "David's progress serves as a prime example of the rich possibilities for development on offer here at Hoffenheim. We wish him all the best for the future, especially with a view to the World Cup in November.''

"Moving to Hoffenheim a year ago was the best thing I could have done. I found optimal conditions here to develop and grow as a footballer and a person," says David Raum. "I've had an outstanding season here, and I'd like to thank everyone at TSG for that."

David Raum represented TSG Hoffenheim in 32 Bundesliga matches and three DFB-Pokal matches, scoring three goals and contributing 13 assists. Last season, he became the Bundesliga's most frequent crosser, with 188 crosses from open play. The Nuremberg-born player has already made nine senior appearances for Germany since making his debut against Armenia in early September 2021.
