Vogt: ''We weren't mature enough''

Here's what the players and coaches had to say after Hoffenheim's 2-0 defeat away to VfL Bochum.

Kevin Vogt: ''It was a game that required patience in the first half. We knew how Bochum wanted to play. But we have to take a good look at ourselves. We were too imprecise in the final third. It was a classic game where the team that scores the first goal wins. The game became wild after we conceded the first goal. I thought there was a Bochum player in an offside position for the opener. I don't think it should have counted, as the Bochum player was standing right behind me. I wouldn't have gone for the ball if he wasn't behind me. But we lost because we got things wrong today. We also weren't mature enough. It wasn't all bad, but we made too many wrong decisions. If we improve on that, then we'll show our quality out on the pitch again.''

Christoph Baumgartner: "It would have been possible to get something from today's game, we were in control for long stages and had our chances. Obviously we expect more than a 2-0 loss from a trip to Bochum. The atmosphere was very good, it was a difficult game for us and it all came down to the little things. We didn't do those well today, we were very poor in the final third and made some bad decisions. You have to make the most of the few opportunities you get. We didn't manage that, so the score remained 0-0 for a long time and then Bochum had chances to get forward and score a goal. That's when it becomes very difficult. Of course, we want to do better in every area, but Bochum also played very well."

Sebastian Hoeness: "We are disappointed and frustrated. I think we managed to prevent Bochum from finding their flow in the first half. We had a good chance to take the lead through Ihlas Bebou. Unfortunately, we didn't execute some counter-attacks very well and missed a lot of opportunities. In the second half, too, I think we had the game under control, but we still conceded the first goal. We can't let that happen to us. That makes it difficult in Bochum and we lost our heads in the atmosphere. We were very sloppy when we had openings, which meant we didn't manage many shots on goal. That annoyed me. We were careless today.''

Thomas Reis (VfL Bochum coach): ''We knew that Hoffenheim would come at us with a lot of quality. I thought we did quite well from a defensive standpoint, but we made things easy for Hoffenheim by not building up much attacking pressure. In the second half it was an open game that could have gone either way.''
