Hermann returns to TSG

Bundesliga football club TSG Hoffenheim are set to work with renowned sports psychologist Prof. Dr. Hans-Dieter Hermann. The 61-year-old from Ludwigsburg has, among other things, been the team psychologist of the Germany national football team since 2004 and also previously worked at TSG between 2006 and 2010.

''Hans-Dieter Hermann is not just an internationally renowned sports psychologist; he is also someone who is familiar with TSG and our philosophy as a club,'' says TSG director of football Alexander Rosen, going on to add: ''We are really looking forward to the collaboration and we can't wait to benefit from his huge experience in elite-level sport.''

''Football is always a mental matter, especially as the game on the pitch is becoming faster and faster. Under maximum physical strain and in psychological pressure situations, it is important to make the right decisions. This also requires mental training sessions with an elite innovative expert like him," says Prof. Dr. Jan Mayer, managing director at TSG Hoffenheim.  In addition to the daily training work on the pitch, the sports psychology support and development of top athletes, as well as that of young academy talents, is "a core part of what we do at TSG Hoffenheim in order to be able to consistently deliver top sporting performance."

Hermann himself was happy about the return during his introduction at the training camp at Tegernsee: "I have great memories of my time in Hoffenheim. TSG were pioneers in the field of sports psychology in football at the time and they've certainly made a lot of progress since then. Now I'm very much looking forward to getting to work with the team and every one of the players.''

Research in this field is being carried out at the club's base in Zuzenhausen, which boasts facilities found nowhere else in the world, such as the so-called Helix. Research is undertaken alongside international partners in a variety of different projects. This scientific work has been initiated and managed for many years now by Prof. Dr. Jan Mayer, who was appointed to the management board of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim Fußball-Spielbetriebs GmbH six weeks ago and is responsible for the fields of science, innovation and corporate development within the board.

Hermann worked and completed his doctorate in psychology at the University of Heidelberg in 1988. In the past decades, he has coached German and international Olympic athletes from more than 20 different sports. In 2004, Jürgen Klinsmann brought the sports psychologist to the German national football team, where he is still a member of the expert staff. He also advises numerous top managers from German businesses.
