Barreiro: "I believe in us"

Leandro Barreiro was only 16 when he joined the 1. FSV Mainz 05 youth set-up. Now 21, he has been a regular starter for the Zero-Fivers for more than a year. Prior to facing TSG on Sunday (13:30 CET), the Luxembourg international gave an interview to tsg-hoffenheim.de in which he spoke about new Mainz head coach Bo Svensson, the chances of beating the drop and Hoffenheim's strengths.

Leandro, things have been going exceptionally well for Mainz since Bo Svensson was appointed as coach. What changes has he made to the team?

"He makes sure the training intensity stays high every day and demands 100% from everyone in every session. In addition, he has a clear philosophy and prepares us well for our respective opponents."

You're still a point away from safety. How confident are you that you'll manage to beat the drop?

"I believe that this group and this club will stay in the league. We've improved a lot in the second half-season and are closer to our rivals. However, there is still a long way to go and we definitely won't let up."

The reverse fixture against Hoffenheim ended 1-1 after a hard-fought 90 minutes. What are your memories of that game?

"We were a player up in the final stages of the game, but unfortunately we didn't manage to get the winning goal."

Hoffenheim's run of four games unbeaten ended with a defeat at the weekend. How do you assess TSG?

"The team definitely have their qualities. But I think it's more important to focus on ourselves and how we can hold our own and play to our strengths. It'll definitely be a difficult game that'll be decided by small details."
