Bebou: "We have to settle for the point"

Oliver Baumann: "I find it extremely frustrating that we're not keeping clean sheets in the Bundesliga. It's often too easy for the opposition to create chances. The second half was completely okay; we gave away little then. It's a shame that we didn't get a second goal during the half-hour that followed the break. We exerted a lot of pressure and created several chances for ourselves. The red card was a bitter situation, because it was a tactical foul. Difficult decision, but we have to accept it."

Ryan Sessegnon: "We wanted to go for the win after equalising, but it was difficult once we went down a man. Mainz were very good defensively and made life difficult for us. We then performed much better in the second half and played more dangerous balls into the penalty area. We absolutely want to win our next game against Augsburg."

Ihlas Bebou: "I was obviously delighted to score my first goal of the season and give the team a helping hand. But we're frustrated because we had high hopes. We wanted to win here. The three points would've done us good, but it was obviously very challenging after the red card. We then had to settle for the point."

Sebastian Hoeness: "We produced a decent performance. After a difficult opening few minutes, we took control. But our clear goalscoring opportunities did not come until shortly before the break. Mainz's goal came during a period in which I felt that we were on the front foot. We must accept the criticism that we did not create enough goalscoring chances from our dominance on the ball. In the end, having gone down a man, we have to live with the 1-1 draw, even if we're not happy with it."

Jan-Moritz Lichte (1. FSV Mainz 05 coach): "As a coach, I'm caught in two minds. I'm happy that we're now three games unbeaten, but equally we can be frustrated about the fact we didn't take the three points. I have the feeling that we had the better opportunities. But we were then too passive in the second half. The way I saw it, we were too focused on trying to defend the result."
