Hoeness: "We're all raring to go"

The wait is finally over: on Saturday (15.30 CET / live updates on tsg-hoffenheim.de) TSG Hoffenheim will kick off their 2020/21 Bundesliga season against 1. FC Cologne. Head coach Sebastian Hoeness spoke before #KOETSG about the personnel situation, the opponents and what we learned from the Chemnitz game.

Sebastian Hoeness on …

… the personnel situation: "We have to wait and see who can come back. Benjamin Hübner and Håvard Nordtveit will definitely not make it. Konstantinos Stafylidis had to have a shoulder operation so he won't play. Robert Skov and Stefan Posch have not trained with the team yet. Just as with Christoph Baumgartner, Andrej Kramarić and Pavel Kadeřábek, who only participated in part of the training, we will have to wait and see. But we will have a team on the pitch that is ready to play."

… the Bundesliga start: "I don't feel any nerves at the moment – that's probably still to come. But we are really looking forward to it and are all raring to go."

… the opponents: "Cologne, with Sebastian Andersson and Ondrej Duda, have signed two players just before the match. Of course, we looked at Cologne's friendly matches, but there are still some things we aren't sure about. But we want to concentrate on ourselves and carry out our plan. We're going to Cologne to win."

… what we learned from the Chemnitz game: "We didn't get into the game as we expected. We wanted to build up a higher tempo. We want to have a better start in Cologne. We got better during the game, but then lost our structure a bit after the equaliser. Nevertheless, we have come through a difficult situation and are in the next round."

Head-to-head record:

So far, the two teams have met each other 18 times in the Bundesliga, with TSG clearly getting the better of their opponents. Hoffenheim have won eight matches, while Cologne have only four victories (alongside six draws). TSG are undefeated against Cologne in the last eight Bundesliga matches (five wins and three draws)

The opposition’s form:

In the first round of the DFB Cup, coach Markus Gisdol's team won 6-0 against regional league team VSG Altglienicke. In the Bundesliga, on the other hand, 1. FC Cologne have gone ten matches without a win since the restart in mid-May.
