John to join SpVgg Greuther Fürth on loan

Bundesliga football club TSG Hoffenheim have prematurely extended the contract of Germany junior international Marco John until 30 June 2025. An agreement was simultaneously reached that the 20-year-old midfielder would join second-tier outfit SpVgg Greuther Fürth on loan until the end of the season with immediate effect.

“Following a season that was difficult for him and shaped by injury, Marco fought his way back with lots of heart, passion and commitment and made a strong impression once again within a short period of time. Having played himself into the domestic and international spotlight in the 2020/21 season, but then suffered several setbacks recently, the main thing for him now is to be playing regularly again,” said Alexander Rosen, the director of football at TSG Hoffenheim. “In the current situation, we’ve agreed with Marco that a loan to an ambitious second-division club is exactly the right step to further his development.”

Marco John has made 16 Bundesliga appearances to date for TSG Hoffenheim and has featured in four Europa League matches (one assist) and one DFB-Pokal tie. He made his debut for the U21 national team last autumn in a EURO qualifier in Latvia. This season, John has made three appearances for TSG’s Regionalliga team.
