Dennis Geiger prematurely extends contract

Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim have successfully concluded a personnel matter with the future in mind: midfielder Dennis Geiger has prematurely extended his contract with the Kraichgau club until 30 June 2023. The 23-year-old, who was born in Mosbach in the Neckar-Odenwald district, has been with TSG since the age of 11 and developed into one of Germany's most talented young footballers at the club's own academy. Geiger has progressed through all Germany youth teams from U15 level onwards and wore the captain's armband for the country's U21 side.

"Dennis has developed extraordinarily at TSG – from a young talent from the region into a sought-after Bundesliga player," said TSG director of football Alexander Rosen. Geiger is a "special player who has an extremely high level of quality and whose development is far from complete, especially since it has been seriously hindered by injuries in the past. We're delighted to have Dennis available to us again and to see him commit to 'his club'." Rosen added that the decision to commit his future to TSG was "an important message of identification for fans and everyone involved with the club from the academy to the first team."

"For me, TSG was and remains the perfect club with the right surroundings. Here I have the best conditions to further my development," said Geiger of his decision. "Even during my time in rehab, it was an important experience for me to always receive positive support and encouragement. I now want to concentrate fully on my performances and the team's success again. That's why it's been clear to me for a long time that I wanted to extend my contract here at Hoffenheim and not consider making a move on a free transfer at the end of this season."

Dennis Geiger is a child of the region. He grew up lacing his boots for SV Sattelbach, before joining the TSG U12s in the summer of 2009. Aged 19, he made his Bundesliga debut on 19 August 2017 in a 1-0 win over Werder Bremen. Just four days later, he was in TSG's starting XI for the second leg of the Champions League play-offs against Liverpool at Anfield, which ended in a 4-2 defeat. To date, the midfielder has made 57 Bundesliga appearances for TSG (four goals) and played in five DFB-Pokal ties. He has appeared twice in the Champions League and eight times in the Europa League.
