No points against Leipzig

The new TSG Hoffenheim coaching team of Matthias Kaltenbach, Marcel Rapp and Kai Herdling oversaw a frustrating defeat to RB Leipzig in their first match in charge. The hosts performed well – especially in the first period – but could not find a way back into the game following Dani Olmo's early brace.

Personnel & tactics:

The new coaching team of Matthias Kaltenbach, Marcel Rapp and Kai Herdling made three changes to the starting XI that drew 2-2 at Fortuna Düsseldorf in the last round of fixtures, with Pavel Kadeřábek, Florian Grillitsch and Dennis Geiger replacing Benjamin Hübner (suspended), Håvard Nordtveit and Robert Skov. Goalkeeper Oliver Baumann was protected by a back three of Florian Grillitsch, Stefan Posch and Ermin Bičakčić, with Pavel Kadeřábek and Steven Zuber starting in the wing-back berths. Sebastian Rudy, Diadie Samassékou and Dennis Geiger were given the nod in central midfield, while Christoph Baumgartner partnered Munas Dabbur in attack.

TSG made an attacking double substitution at the beginning of the second half, with Zuber and Samassékou making way for Robert Skov and Andrej Kramarić. Ihlas Bebou replaced Dabbur on the 62-minute mark, before Jacob Bruun Larsen came on in place of Baumgartner with around 20 minutes remaining (68). The final change came in the closing stages as Kevin Akpoguma entered the fray and Grillitsch moved into midfield (81).

Moment of the match:

TSG Hoffenheim were awarded a penalty in the sixth minute of the match following a foul on Munas Dabbur. The decision was reviewed at length by the video assistant referee and eventually reversed for a handball by Christoph Baumgartner in the build-up. Dani Olmo then stunned Hoffenheim by firing Leipzig two goals ahead in the space of two minutes.

Number of the game: 22

TSG had 22 shots at the RB Leipzig goal over the 90 minutes – but still they could not find the back of the net.

Line-ups:

TSG Hoffenheim: Baumann – Posch, Grillitsch, Bičakčić – Kadeřábek, Rudy, Samassékou (Kramarić, 46), Geiger, Zuber (Zuber, 46) – Baumgartner (Bruun Larsen, 68) – Dabbur (Bebou, 62)
