Robert Enke Foundation to visit TSG home match

The Robert Enke foundation will be present at the PreZero Arena for TSG's home match against 1. FC Nuremberg this Sunday (15:30 CET kick-off). The foundation works across Germany to tackle the stigmatisation of depression, and aims to create a point of contact for all those who are interested in or affected by this medical condition.

10 November 2009 is a day which remains etched in the memories of many people. On this day, Hannover 96 and German national team goalkeeper Robert Enke took his own life, leaving behind his wife and child. The goalkeeper suffered from depression. Until Enke's suicide, many people had no idea he suffered from this medical condition. And that's exactly what depression is: a recognised medical condition.

Together against the stigmatisation of depression

All involved in German football take their sense of social responsibility very seriously and feel duty bound to contribute towards education, research and treatment related to depression. With this in mind, the DFB, the DFL and Hannover 96 got together on 15 January 2010 to found the Robert Enke foundation. The foundation's objective is to promote policies and services which contribute towards educating the public about depression and heart conditions in children, as well as research and treatment for both of these medical conditions. The organisation's work on heart conditions in children is at the request of the foundation's director, Teresa Enke. Her and Robert's daughter, Lara Enke, died in 2006 as a result of a heart condition.

Since its establishment, the foundation has been involved in many projects, and one of the most notable among them is ''Robert Enke Foundation on Tour.'' Since the beginning of the 2011/12 Bundesliga season, the foundation has brought an information stand to numerous Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga matches, not to mention several handball, ice hockey and basketball events. The foundation aims to create a point of contact for all those who are interested in learning about depression or the work of the foundation, as well as all those who are affected by depression or know people who are.

The ''Robert Enke Foundation on tour'' is coming to Sinsheim this weekend. The foundation's information stand will be set up at this Sunday's home match against 1. FC Nuremberg, located between the fan shop and the entrance point for away coaches.
