Alfred Schreuder switches to Ajax

Alfred Schreuder is leaving TSG Hoffenheim to go and work at Dutch giants Ajax. The 45-year-old coach will begin his new journey alongside manager Erik ten Hag this weekend. Schreuder has been assistant manager at TSG since October 2015.

Only a few days ago, the 45-year-old Dutchman requested the termination of his contract, which was set to last until 30th June 2019. In their search for a new coaching team, Amsterdam based club Ajax had Schreuder at the top of their list. Schreuder will join the club and 48-year-old head coach Erik ten Hag with immediate effect. It is with a heavy heart that I leave TSG," said Schreuder, who joined the club in October 2015 with Huub Stevens. After Stevens’ departure in February 2016, Schreuder stayed on to become Julian Nagelsmann’s assistant: "I am very grateful for all the fantastic experiences I was able to gather here at one of the best teams in the Bundesliga." In his words, working with Julian Nagelsmann was "extraordinary." Schreuder has asked for the club’s understanding that he just wants to "follow this offer from his home country and its legendary club." He gave further personal reasons for the switch. His wife and their children live only a few kilometres outside of Amsterdam.

The directors at TSG had decided to grant the contract termination depending on how quickly a new assistant manager could be found. “We are pleased to have found a replacement so quickly,” said Alexander Rosen, but asks for understanding of the fact that the name "cannot be revealed until the start of next week, because he will not have the opportunity to say his farewells to his current players and colleagues until then. We respect this wish," said TSG’s Director of Football.
