#TSGSGE match reaction: “We deserved the point”

The players and head coaches gave their thoughts after TSG and Frankurt’s 1-1 on matchday 12.

Julian Nagelsmann: “We’ve conceded late goals in the past, but today we scored in extra-time. It was deserved. Frankfurt’s goal took the wind out of our sails after we had started well. We lost patience a little and didn’t use the space as well. We weren’t good enough in the final third in the second half, although it was clear we really wanted to score. I can live with the point today. Frankfurt defended well and with lots of players back.”

Niko Kovac: “That’s football. We’ve been lucky to score late in past games, but today it was the other way round. We defended very well before and after the break, but we didn’t create many chances in the second half. Hoffenheim upped the pressure then, too. Their goal is frustrating but we’ll take the point.”

Alexander Rosen: “We started well but couldn’t make the pressure count. Frankfurt stood firm and made it difficult for us, but I also think we made it hard for ourselves today. The substitutions made a difference – we deserved the equaliser.”

Lukas Rupp: “We always want to play the ball out from the back. It was maybe too risky when we tried it before Boateng’s goal, but it was also just a very good goal. He wouldn’t make that every time. I probably should have cleared the ball. We had a lot more of the ball and so I think the point was deserved.”

Oliver Baumann: “Overall, we played well. It was an unlucky goal to concede. We had a lot of possession and maybe could’ve scored before the break – thank goodness we got the goal eventually. We weren’t as dangerous in the second half as in the first, but we built up a lot of pressure towards the end. It’s a shame we didn’t score.”

Serge Gnabry: “Frankfurt put us under a lot of pressure before half-time and we lost possession a lot. Boateng scored a very good goal, but we showed strong character to keep on going after the break.”

Mark Uth: “It’s never fun against Frankfurt. They’re a good team that defends very well. It was an even contest in the first half, the difference being Frankfurt took their chances while we didn’t. The point was deserved for our second-half performance.”
