TSG with convincing win over Bologna

Personnel and tactics:

TSG will take on Rot-Weiß Erfurt next week in the DFB Cup. With that in mind, Julian Nagelsmann started with the following eleven: Baumann, Kaderabek, Nordtveit, Rupp, Demirbay, Zuber, Uth, Hübner, Vogt, Gnabry und Geiger.

The team started in the 3-5-2 formation that brought so much success last season. Hübner, Vogt and new signing Nordtveit played in a solid back three, whilst Zuber and Kaderabek took to the wings. Youngster Denis Geiger, as well as Kerem Demirbay and Lukas Rupp occupied the middle of the park, with Mark Uth and Serge Gnabry completing the attack.

Julian Nagelsmann changed things up with 15 minutes to go, bringing on Meris Skenderovic, Robin Hack, Philipp Ochs and Kevin Akpoguma to replace Geiger, Demirbay, Gnabry and Kevin Vogt.

Moment of the match:

All 12,887 fans rose to their feet at the WIRSOL Rhein-Neckar-Arena. “Stand up, if you love Hoffe”, they belted out. An amazing atmosphere for a pre-season friendly and a reward for the team’s performance. You can really feel there is a sense of euphoria in and around the club.

Number of the match: 3

New signing Serge Gnabry was making his first appearance at the WIRSOL Rhein-Neckar-Arena and the fans were delighted to be able to finally see him in action. The number 29 set up the first two goals against Bologna and then slotted away the third himself. An excellent home debut.

Match reaction:

Julian Nagelsmann: "We lacked focus sometimes in front of goal but the Bologna keeper had some luck with one or two chances. The opposition stopped offering much going forward and only tried to play on the counterattack. We had that under control most of the time."

Havard Nordtveit: "The red card against Bologna was not ideal for us. We would have preferred to have played against eleven men for 90 minutes but that is just how it went. I think we played well overall but we need to score more goals. Apart from that I am happy. I wanted Kevin Akpoguma to get a few minutes today because he has deserved it but he is not quite ready yet to do that and then play in our first competitive game. That will take a while."

Kevin Akpoguma: I got my injury around four months ago and everything has gone fantastically since then. It's amazing that I am already able to play again. I was thrilled with the few minutes I got. I need to thank the coach for that."
