Leipzig match reaction

We get the thoughts of the managers and players after today’s 2-1 defeat in Leipzig.

Julian Nagelsmann: We needed to support each other better in the channels to try and restrict Leipzig’s chances. That was our main downfall today and they were just better than us on the whole and deserved to win. With the exception of the goal we did not make the most of our chances down the wings. The red card for Sandro Wagner was the right decision but I thought Naby Keita should have been warned earlier, and that angered me a bit because he comitted a lot of cynical and tactical fouls.

Ralph Hasenhüttl: I think we had complete faith in our game plan and we impressed upon Hoffenheim our style of play. We believed in ourselves after the break and deserved the win. This result is a big step for us. We don’t want to talk about Bayern, we are just happy with these three points. I want to give a lot of credit to my team.

Nadiem Amiri: Obviously we are disappointed. Whether or not it was a red card is irrelevant because I didn’t see the incident. The goal we scored demonstrated the quality we have in this team. We knew it would be hard to remain unbeaten but this still hurts. Losing Kevin Vogt was a big blow to us, as well as the red card and from then on it became too difficult against a side like Leipzig.

Oliver Baumann: The second goal was so frustrating. I was tracking the ball all the way but I couldn’t stop it from going inside the post. We played okay, but there were times when we didn’t come out of some situation how we would have hoped, but by and large we did okay. The goal we scored was fantastic. It’s always hard to play against Leipzig when they come at you in the final third because they are so quick and track back so well but we defended very well against that for the most part. With ten men it was always going to be difficult. We couldn’t really get forward anymore and we were running out of energy and as a result we must accept defeat. That is not going to derail us, we’re playing again in the week and we want all three points.

Sandro Wagner: I have no complaints about the red card. I was too late and I’m a disappointed with myself. Fortunately didn't hurt him and I apologised immediately. Things like that can happen. It’s frustrating but even before my red card they were the better team. We had a lot of chances before the break, but couldn’t do enough with the end product.
