Nadiem Amiri: "Just the craziest moment"

Last season Nadiem Amiri came on against Eintracht Frankfurt last season, dribbling, shooting and then scoring. The forward spoke to achtzehn99.de about this special moment last year, the lessons learnt from the game against 1. FC Köln and the upcoming game against Eintracht at the Commerzbank-Arena.

Can you remember the game against Eintracht in the second-half of last season?

Nadiem Amiri: Of course I can. It was a great moment. It would also be great if I could score against them again this Friday evening. I will do all I can to achieve that if I get on the pitch. The goal last year was something special. We were low down in the table at that point and the game was crucial. Things didn’t exactly run smoothly for me in the lead up to that game in training, so I started on the bench. When I eventually came on to the pitch, I was extremely fired up. I received the ball, just ran with it and then scored. Emotionally, it was the craziest moment of my career so far. Even now I still get goosebumps when I think about it. We eventually won that game and took a big step towards staying up with the result.

Let’s look back to the last Bundesliga match against Köln. What will you take with you from this 4-0 home win?

Amiri: The same things that we did when we beat Hertha at home. We’re able to beat teams who are close to us in the table. That is important experience for us and is good for us as a squad. There are teams who are also in good form and have a spring in their step so that helps us to assert ourselves. That is massively important for our confidence.

Frankfurt are precisely that sort of team. They are in fifth place and have exactly the same amount of points as TSG. What are you expecting from them?

Amiri: They are strong going forward. I’ve not looked at them a huge amount but our coaching staff will prepare us very well between now and Friday evening. I expect them to be a good team that will want to win after we beat them last season.

Friday night, under the floodlights. Is that an atmosphere that will spur you on?

Amiri: Absolutely. This is one of those games where you really want to be playing. The stadium will definitely be sold out, after all, it’s fourth against fifth. It will be sheer adrenaline. It’s for these games that I became a professional footballer.

What do you want to achieve from this match?

Amiri: At the very least, we want to leave Frankfurt with our unbeaten record intact but ultimately, we’re going there to win it. That would be a fantastic result and would provide us with momentum for the rest of our games before the winter break. I want us to win all our remaining matches this year if possible.
