Reaction to the game against Gladbach

The players and coaches had their say after TSG’s 1-1 draw with Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Julian Nagelsmann: We found it very tough to get into the game. We had little space early on, then improved. There was another disruption to our game in the 25th minute. The goal we conceded could have been prevented. We talked things over and looked to turn the game around over half time, and we did very well in the quarter of an hour right after the break, when we scored the equaliser. After that, one could see that both teams wanted to play their football. Defensively, both teams were vulnerable, but Gladbach had the better chances. We can be satisfied with a point.

André Schubert: We had a number of clear goalscoring opportunities that could have won us the game. We played very well right through the game. We had a good chance to make it 2-0 right after half time, too. Overall, we gave away very little, but did not take our chances.

Nadiem Amiri: It was a good omen for me, coming off the bench. Last season I scored twice as a substitute. There was no anger on my part at being on the bench – the coach knows what is best and how to use me. For the goal, I had a lot of space to get the shot away, so I did. I looked down, and the next thing I saw was the ball flying in. We did not play so well in midfield before the break, which I could see from the bench.

Eugen Polanski: The first half was not good. During the break, we discussed how things had gone and worked from there to fix it. I think that it was clear to see that we were capable of keeping up with Gladbach. With a bit of luck, we might even have won the game. But it remains true that we could have been training by two at half time, but after the break we played a lot better and defended with far more strength.

Oliver Baumann: I always have a lot to do when we play Gladbach and today was no different. For the goal we conceded we switched off a little, but after that we played well. There were chances for both sides through the game. Gladbach were very difficult to defend on the counter, but we managed things well. The team showed good aggression and fight today, and we can be pleased with that. It feels good that we are still unbeaten and I think that shows on the pitch.
