1. FC Köln match reaction

We spoke to both camps after TSG’s 0-0 draw in Cologne.

Huub Stevens: It was a small step in the right direction. We didn’t want to play too openly so our aim was to control the game as much as possible, which we managed well in my opinion. We could have been leading or losing at the break to be honest – really good sides would have been in front at that point. The performance was good and the lads fought well. You need confidence to score goals, so we’ll be working on that this week. There’s still work to be done.

Peter Stöger: I’m happy with how my team dealt with the situation considering the fact that we had lost three on the bounce going into the match. We had chances but didn’t make the most of them. Despite that, I’m happy with the performance.

Oliver Baumann: We’re happy with the point. We made too many errors after the break. I’m happy to have kept another clean sheet. It was a small step in the right direction. We worked on our organisation as a collective during the week and I think that you could see that throughout the game – we defended well throughout the game.

Mark Uth: It was a tough game and we’ll happily take a point. We wanted to remain compact and not give much away and on the whole I’d say we managed that. We worked together and fought for each other. I think we deserved a point.

Sebastian Rudy: It was important to stay compact and tight today as it meant that they didn’t get too many chances. We managed that, but it’s only the first step. There’s more work to be done.

Pirmin Schwegler: It was a good start but there are things we need to work on. It certainly wasn’t perfect. We lost our way after the break a bit and made too many mistakes. Thankfully, we defended solidly and managed to claim a point.
