Schalke 04 match reaction

We caught up with Markus Gisdol and a few of the players after the 3-1 defeat to Schalke 04.

Markus Gisdol:It was an open game in the first few minutes. If we'd gone in front then things could have gone differently. But Schalke scored the first goal. Fuchs' second tackle was a key moment of the match for me. I think that he should have been sent off for a second yellow card. We didn't play well in the first half and Schalke deserved to score a second. My team showed a good reaction after half time. We had good chances on the counter but then Schalke made it 3-0. The game was over at that point. We pulled one back and had chances at 3-1 but we weren't able to find the back of the net again.

Andreas Beck:We didn't stick to our plan. Schalke countered us two or three times in the first half at their own ground. Our positioning was lacking and Schalke had a lot of chances. It was better in the second half. We had more control of the game and created a few chances. Overall, it was a deserved defeat.

Oliver Baumann:It's hard to say what was lacking in the first half. I believe that we didn't complete enough passes. We were unable to make the most of our chances and didn't have many shots. Schalke were mostly a step ahead of us to the ball. They always managed to get to the byline and that's how they scored their goals.

Christian Fuchs:I scored a goal, cleared one off the line and then got brought off. The manager was making sure that I didn't get sent off as I could have already been shown a second yellow card before that.
