Goal-line technology to be introduced in the 2015/16 season!

The 18 top-flight clubs passed the vote regarding the introduction of goal-line technology from the 1st July 2015 in the Bundesliga this Thursday. A two-thirds majority was needed to pass the motion. Twelve of the 18 clubs therefore had to vote ‘yes' to the motion. 15 Bundesliga teams voted ‘yes', which means that goal-line technology will grace the Bundesliga from the 2015/16 season.

The decision was very well received by TSG. “I'm happy that we can take this step forward in the Bundesliga together. Goal-line technology will definitely help to correctly decide the basic decisions of a game, i.e. goal or no goal. It will therefore help the fans, the officials and the whole league,” Peter Rettig explained, CEO of TSG.

Director of Professional Football Alexander Rosen also showed his relief at the passing of the motion: “This decision is the correct one and long overdue from our perspective. The most important decision in football – goal or no goal – will now be adjudged easily and quickly by a sensible and tested technology. I have absolutely no concerns too that the fans will have nothing more to discuss after a Bundesliga weekend through the usage of goal-line technology.”

The topic has already been on the agenda of the German Football League Association (DFL) for a vote. The second-division sides also voted on that occasion. The result: The motion was rejected. Now FC Bayern München proposed a second vote among the top-flight teams only. A goal wasn't awarded after Dortmund defender Mats Hummels put the ball over the line in the DFB Cup Final against FCB.

DFL have surveyed all Bundesliga stadiums in view of the new motion and examined the three options for goal-line technology, which have already been submitted. Peter Rettig and Frank Briel, head of finance and organisation for TSG represented Hoffenheim in Frankfurt. The representatives already voted yes for the introduction of goal-line technology in March. They voted the same this time too.
