Colours come into play

There has been plenty of excitement around 1899 Hoffenheim's stadium construction site in recent days. The red-illuminated crane, which has stood inside the stadium since early this year, has lifted the final heavy pieces of the roof into place. The special crane needed to be able to lift 400 tonnes to complete this task. With this the construction of the north stand roof is now complete, and the membrane pieces can now be put in place. The heavy steel pieces are now being supported by pillars in the east stand and the stands behind the goals.

When all the gaps are filled in the support pillars will be removed, the roof will sink a little and supported by the entire structure. This means that visitors to the stadium will not have their view of the pitch interrupted by support pillars. The work of the special crane is now done. It was taken out of the stadium through the gap in the north stand, and the remainder of the stand was put in place to close the circle of the arena.

Serious work is also going on within the stadium interior, albeit with a little more subtlety. The decorators are putting more and more paint on the walls of the Business Area, and the floors are being finished. From a bird's eye perspective you can not only see the skeletal frame of the roof and the already-installed membranes, but also the parking spaces in the immediate vicinity of the ground which are reached by a ring road. On summer days you can see the glass of the west stand facade glinting in the sunlight from far around, with most of the work on that now complete.
