Sebastian Rudy: "A piece of home"

Sebastian Rudy was one of TSG’s leading lights last season, before he made the move to record champions Bayern Munich in the summer. The German international spoke to achtzehn99.de about his start in Munich, his return to Sinsheim this Saturday for the Bundesliga clash between his new club and TSG and his memories of his two previous appearances against Hoffenheim.

Sebastian, your start in Munich has been…

Sebastian Rudy: …good. I feel really comfortable here already. I’ve been welcomed really nicely and made friends very quickly. I knew quite a few of my teammates from the national setup. So it didn’t take too long to settle in. Now I’m really excited for the match against Hoffenheim.

What do you think of Munich and how have you settled in in the first few weeks?

Rudy: Unfortunately, I haven’t seen much of Munich so far. Recently I’ve been so busy with the move and sorting out our house but I have settled in well and I think I’ll get to know the city better in the next few weeks.

You’ve played 34 minutes across two games in your career against TSG, most recently in December 2009 with VfB Stuttgart. Do you remember it?

Rudy: Yes, I still remember it. The first 10 minutes were my first Bundesliga minutes in Stutgart. It was 0-0. That’s funny… but I can’t remember much else of it unfortunately.

What do you affiliate with your return to the WIRSOL Rhein-Neckar Arena in Sinsheim?

Rudy: For me, Hoffenheim is a little piece of home. I was at TSG for seven years and I think you can’t just move on from that quickly. I’m still in contact with lots of friends and teammates so I still feel close to Hoffenheim.

What are you expecting from the game on Saturday? In the last Bundesliga match between the sides, you helped TSG to their first win over Bayern.

Rudy: I hope, of course, that we can win, get the three points and that I can come out on top against my old teammates (grins).
