Hoffenheim suffer late derby heartache

TSG Hoffenheim missed out on two points against Stuttgart as Timo Werner equalised in the 90th minute. Kevin Volland put Hoffenheim into the lead twice, while Jan Kliment scored Stuttgart’s first.

LINE-UP AND FORMATION:

Markus Gisdol went into the game with the motto "never change a winning team", and therefore sent out the same team that beat Augsburg last weekend.

Pavel Kaderabek, Niklas Süle, Ermin Bicakcic and Jeremy Toljan lined up in defence in front of keeper Oliver Baumann. Eugen Polanski, Pirmin Schwegler and Sebastian Rudy made up the midfield, while the strike partnership of Kevin Volland, Jonathan Schmid and Eduardo Vargas looked to threaten the Stuttgart goal.

TSG’s formation varied throughout the game, interchanging between a 4-4-2, 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 systemto try and confuse the opposition.

After several changes in the second half, the game became more open, but Hoffenheim had to settle for a draw conceding the late equaliser.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH:

Yesterday, he was nominated for the Ballon d‘Or, today, with a lot of self-confidence, he tried to chip the goalkeeper from very far out. Eduardo Vargas tried to beat Tyton with a audacious attempt, and thanks to a scrambled save and the post, we were denied a contender for goal of the season.

NUMBER OF THE MATCH: 2

Scoring braces has become a formality for Kevin Volland, as he has already done it against Augsburg. Unfortunately, Timo Werner crashed the party and Hoffenheim were unable to take all three points.
