Amiri impresses for Germany U20S

A strong performance from Nadiem Amiri helped the Germany U20 side beat Turkey 1-0 in the opening game of their Mercedes-Benz Elite Cup campaign. He was brought off after 62 minutes.

Amiri impressed in Ulm and showed his quality on a number of occasions. Frank Wormuth’s side their Turkish counterparts 1-0 in front of 2,268 spectators. The winner was scored by Max Dittgen (SG Sonnenhof Großaspach) after 43 minutes.

Amiri started the game and put in a strong performance. He had two good chances to score but his free kick (15’) and powerful drive after a strong run (30’) were well saved by the game.

Germany remained in control after the break but failed to add another goal - Maximilian Wittek’s (TSV 1860 München) missed penalty was the closest they came in the second period. Wormuth was delighted with the performance, despite the missed opportunities: “The team were sensational. They’ve got to grips with my philosophy quickly and put in a good performance.”
