FC Bayern match reaction

We gathered the thoughts from both camps after Hoffenheim’s 2-1 loss to FC Bayern Munich on Saturday afternoon.

Markus Gisdol:

It’s difficult to find the right words. We’re all gutted. I’d like to pay a huge compliment to my team. We did everything we asked of ourselves. We had Bayern on the brink of a defeat and really made them pull out all the stops. That even goes for when it was still eleven against eleven. We can be proud of the team we’ve got this season. We will take a lot of strength from this match. If you play like that against Bayern, there’s nothing stopping you doing it against other sides. The results hurts, but we will overcome that pain over the next day or two.

Josep Guardiola:

I’m happy with the win and the performance. We’ve always had problems against Hoffenheim in recent years. We know that it would be difficult today too. I think that was one of my team’s best performances in the last three years.

Kevin Volland:

We wanted to put Bayern under pressure from the off and we were able to do that. Of course the opening goal was virtually handed to me on a plate. I was in the right place at the right time and pounced on the misplaced pass. We were full of motivation and we could all rely on one another today. It was a top performance.

Niklas Süle:

We put up some good resistance for long spells and were so close to beating Bayern. We’re obviously disappointed, but there are a lot of positives to take away. We defended well, even though you can’t defend everything against Munich. It’s even more painful to have lost the game in the 90th minute.

Manuel Neuer:

It was a great performance from us. I would say that we were the better side after the start. We had more chances and deserved to win in the end.
