1. FC Köln match reaction

Here is the match reaction following Hoffenheim's 4-3 loss to 1. FC Köln.

Markus Gisdol:Congratulations to 1. FC Köln. It's a really tough to accept this defeat because we played well for long spells in this match. I don't think that any side has managed to create as many chances against Köln as we did today. We even managed to minimise Köln's threat from counterattacks. However, we still conceded four goals, which were the result of individual mistakes. We will analyse the game and then move on to the next one. That's football sometimes. There won't be many points to criticise. We simply didn't reward ourselves for a good performance.

Peter Stöger:Obviously we are very happy and satisfied with the result. Hoffenheim have enormous potential, especially in their attacking department. We witnessed that in the closing stages of the first half, when they managed to levelled at 3-3 from 3-1 down. It was difficult to motivate the team during the break because you would normally lose a game like this as a newly promoted side. My team showed passion and a fighting spirit to win the match. I'm a proud man today.

Andreas Beck:We're incredibly disappointed. We worked really hard for a fourth goal in the second half and then we conceded out of nowhere. You could count Köln's chances on one hand. We showed great morale and tried to disrupt our opponents' organisation. I think that we will come away from this defeat stronger. We will grow and learn from this experience.

Kevin Volland:I can't really explain that defeat. We were clearly the side pushing more, but somehow Köln managed to score from each of their chances. It's obviously very disappointing for us, especially the way things went in the second half.

Roberto Firmino:It's a painful defeat. We played well, gave it everything and had enough chances to win the game. Köln only had one chance after the break and they decided the match with it. I have to digest this defeat before I join up with the national team. I would obviously have preferred to have travelled there off the back of a positive result. I'm very proud to represent my country. Hopefully it won't just be this once – I will give my all while I'm there.
