Harder13 Cup – Kurz: “We're taking part to win!”

Pre-season for the second half of the Bundesliga campaign – the peak time for indoor football. A part of this high-quality form of the game is the Harder13 Cup in the SAP Arena, which takes place on Saturday (January 5th 2013) for the seventh time in its history.

Along with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, who finished in second place last year, defending champions Karlsruher SC, 1. FC Kaiserslautern, SV Waldhof Mannheim and SV Sandhausen are also taking part.

The tournament, in its seventh year, has a new format this time around. Instead of six competitors, this time just five teams will fight for the title. “For a long time, we've considered how we could make the Harder13 Cup more attractive for the fans of the clubs participating and for football fans generally. By reducing the number of teams to five and having a format where everyone plays everyone, we can guarantee that the fans will watch their side play at least four matches rather than just two like in previous years”, explained Daniel Höpp, chief executive of the SAP Arena.

As each side will play each other at least once, meaning the best two teams are sure to end up in the final.

In the very first game, TSG manager Marco Kurz will come up against his former club 1. FC Kaiserslautern. For Kurz, that's of secondary importance. “Derbies are always something good and exciting for the region. It's not any more important because 1. FC Kaiserslautern are involved. My full commitment and concentration is with TSG and what lies ahead of us. Nevertheless, there's no doubt that I'm looking forward to seeing some familiar faces,” said Kurz about the reunion. The manager is certainly taking the indoor football tournament seriously: “We want to be successful and we're taking part to win”, said the manager decisively.

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim will be involved in Match 1 against 1. FC Kaiserslautern (17.45-18.08 CET), Match 3 against Karlsruher SC (18.39-19.02 CET), Match 6 against SV Sandhausen (20.04-20.27 CET) and Match 10 against SV Waldhof Mannheim (20.58-21.21 CET). The final between the top two sides will be at 22.23-22.50 CET.

Doors open on Saturday at 16.00 CET, while the official welcome ahead of the opening match between TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and 1. FC Kaiserslautern is at 17.30 CET.
