Ilzer: "We want to finish off the job"
Christian Ilzer on…
…the situation in the table: "We have picked up far too few points in recent weeks. Hence why it has remained a difficult season from start to finish. There's no need to talk about the performances, which were quite good at times, but at the end of the day we didn't get enough good results. We've striving for our best-possible performance. We need to take a livelier approach and still want to climb one place in the table. To that end, we need to perform. It is not a case of hoping for the teams below us to do something. We're looking at ourselves and putting the focus on our own games."
…the change of coach in Wolfsburg: "We already encountered this situation a few weeks ago against RB Leipzig. It makes it more unpredictable to some extent, but we've watched one or two of Daniel Bauer's U19 matches in order to see what approach he takes. He can't turn things around completely either, but he will try to inject new energy. But we can only anticipate and are therefore concentrating more on ourselves."
…the match on Friday: "Wolfsburg will be focused and well set-up. They have a high level of individual quality. We have to be wary of that. We still have two matches remaining to achieve our minimum objective of staying in the league. We have taken a few steps forward since my appointment, but I'm also not satisfied about the fact that we haven't managed it sooner. We don't want to prolong our season and want to finish off the job in Wolfsburg."
…the personnel situation: "We have one or two players carrying injuries. Oliver Baumann's chances of being back in goal look pretty good."
…the lessons learned from the Gladbach game: "We have to make some slight adjustments, in defence in particular, and address the right issues. That has been our main focus."
…the away fans in Wolfsburg: "I want to thank the fans for their support in what has not always been an easy season. That's why we want to cover the tickets costs for the fans travelling to Wolfsburg on Friday as a small gesture of thanks."
The opposition's form:
VfL Wolfsburg have reacted to their sporting downturn and dismissed coach Ralph Hasenhüttl following a run of eight matches without a win. U19 coach Daniel Bauer has taken over with VfL in 12th position on 39 points.
Head-to-head record:
The two clubs have already gone head-to-head twice this season and Wolfsburg have come out on top in both games (1-0 in the Bundesliga, 3-0 in the DFB-Pokal). VfL also have the superior overall record, with 17 wins versus 10 defeats, in addition to eight draws.
