Petković and Volz bolster the TSG Hoffenheim coaching staff

Bundesliga football club TSG Hoffenheim have reorganised their coaching staff led by head coach Christian Ilzer for the 2025/2026 season. Following the departure of assistant coach Benjamin Hübner to the German Football Association (DFB), the contract of assistant coach Frank Fröhling, which was due to expire at the end of June 2025, has not been renewed. In addition, goalkeeping coach Alexander Stolz has left TSG at his own request for personal reasons. Moritz Volz will join the Kraichgau club as the new assistant coach and Marjan Petković as the new goalkeeping coach, completing the coaching team alongside the two other assistant coaches, Uwe Hölzl and Dominik Deutschl.

“First of all, I would like to thank Hübi, Frank and Alex for their outstanding work and incredible loyalty here at TSG over the past few years,” said Andreas Schicker, sporting director at TSG. “After both Hübi and Alex left the club at their own request, we decided to fill the vacant assistant coach position and reduce the coaching team to three assistant coaches. For this reason, Frank’s contract was not extended. We are convinced that we have now found an assistant coach in Moritz Volz who can bring new impetus to the coaching team and also to the squad. Among other things, Moritz was assistant coach to Julian Nagelsmann at RB Leipzig and also gained important experience in a coaching role at Galatasaray. His thoughtful and calm manner will be a great asset to us, and his open character and perspectives as a former pro will help him quickly establish a positive rapport with the team. In Marjan Petković, we have also found our ideal solution for the position of goalkeeping coach. Marjan was previously a player at TSG and goalkeeping coach at the TSG Academy, so he already knows the club from his time here and has the TSG DNA. He will definitely enrich our goalkeeping group, led by club captain and Germany international Oliver Baumann, with his expertise."

“I am very much looking forward to my new role at TSG Hoffenheim,” said Moritz Volz about his move to the Kraichgau, adding: “I have gained valuable and diverse experience as an assistant coach in recent years, which I will bring to the table right from the start. TSG are a very innovative club who offer outstanding working conditions. I am really looking forward to getting started with the coaching team and the squad and want to play my part in a successful sporting future here in Hoffenheim.”

Moritz Volz was most recently assistant coach of FC Bayern Munich’s women’s team from January 2024 to the end of June 2024. Prior to that, he held the same position at Turkish club Galatasaray, with whom he won the Turkish championship, and in the Bundesliga at RB Leipzig under former TSG head coach and current Germany national team coach Julian Nagelsmann. In recent months, Volz has worked as a TV expert for various broadcasters. During his active career, Volz played in the English Premier League for Fulham FC, in the Bundesliga for FC St. Pauli and in the Bundesliga 2 for TSV 1860 Munich. The 42-year-old former pro also received his footballing education at English club Arsenal.

“I took my first steps as a goalkeeping coach at the TSG Academy. I am all the more delighted to be back here, to see many familiar faces again and to get started straight away without much time to settle in,” said Marjan Petković.

“Together with head coach Christian Ilzer, the coaching team and our goalkeeping unit led by captain Oliver Baumann, I want to do my part to ensure that we are successful at TSG.” Marjan Petković spent the past seven years as goalkeeping coach at SV Wehen Wiesbaden in the second and third tier. Prior to that, Petković worked in the same position for four years at the TSG Hoffenheim academy.

As an active player, the 46-year-old former keeper spent seven years in goal for Eintracht Braunschweig in the Bundesliga 2 and 3. Liga. He also played for SV Sandhausen in the Regionalliga Süd and made a total of 30 appearances for TSG’s Oberliga team in the 2003/2004 season.
