Sandro Wagner to strengthen TSG's attack

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim have signed Sandro Wagner from league rivals SV Darmstadt 98. The 28-year-old striker has signed a contract lasting until 30th June 2019.

"Sandro, after Thomas Müller, was the second highest German goal-scorer in the Bundesliga last season. That says a lot about his performance”, according to Alexander Rosen. The TSG sporting director also stressed - “we have signed a strong and charismatic player in Wagner, who will do us a lot of good with his enormous presence, both on and off the pitch”.

Head coach Julian Nagelsmann is very excited about the striker, who is “strong in the air and in the tackle, displays good link-up play as well as superior finishing, and works very hard when the opposition are in possession”.

Sandro Wagner is “happy that the transfer has now gone through, after hard negotiations with my old club.“ Hoffenheim was his first-choice club. The possibilities and ambitions at TSG impressed him from the start.

The attacker came through the youth system at Bayern Munich, and he made the first four of his 117 Bundesliga appearances during their championship-winning 2007/08 season. His other previous top-division clubs were Werder Bremen (30), FC Kaiserslautern (11), Hertha BSC (40), as well as most recently Darmstadt (32). He has scored 21 goals in total in the Bundesliga, with 14 for the “Lilies”. In the second Bundesliga, he has played for MSV Duisburg and Hertha BSC.

He also represented Germany U21s, wearing the national shirt eight times. During their 4-0 win over England at the 2009 European Championship, he scored twice.
