Together, we shall not forget

Memorial stones were laid in Sinsheim for the first time at the end of May to ensure that the expulsion of Jews, Sinti and Roma, politically persecuted people, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses and victims of euthanasia under National Socialism is not forgotten.

"A person is only forgotten when his name is forgotten," says the Talmud, one of the most important Jewish scriptures. To prevent this from happening, small memorial plaques known as Stolpersteine are placed in the ground across Europe to ensure that the expulsion of Jews, Sinti and Roma, politically persecuted people, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses and victims of euthanasia under National Socialism is not forgotten.

At the end of May the first 10x10 centimetre memorial stones, which bear the name, year of birth and year of deportation, murder or escape, were also laid in Sinsheim. Artist Gunter Demming, the inventor of the memorial stones, laid 13 of them in Muthstrasse, Hauptstrasse and Bahnhofstrasse. TSG Hoffenheim are supporting the initiative and donated the memorial stones for the Ledermann family in Muthstraße, where the Jewish footballer Sallo Ledermann also lived. Together, we shall not forget!
