"kicker" ranking list: Raum makes top spot
The perfect end to a great debut season: David Raum received the "International class" rating from the football magazine "kicker" and was named the league's best player in the defensive full-back category. The 24-year-old was ranked fourth in the "National class" category at the end of the first half-season. And for Raum – who went from the second tier with Fürth to representing his country at TSG – another notable award has followed at the end of his first Bundesliga season. The TSG man relegated 1. FC Cologne's Jonas Hector and SC Freiburg's Christian Günther (both "National Class") to second and third place.
"Raum is the crossing king" wrote "kicker", who went on to highlight the full-back's consistently strong performances: "Raum is difficult to stop in one-on-one situations and in emergencies he simply kicks the ball around the defenders. And all of that happens with a high degree of efficiency: around 30% of the seven crosses he makes on average per 90 minutes reach a team-mate." "kicker" expert and former TSG coach Markus Babbel was also full of praise: "David Raum is one for the future, he deserves to be "International class". I like his technique, his reading of the game and the way he keeps pushing."
There was cause for celebration for Christoph Baumgartner too: the 22-year-old made 11th place in the "Attacking midfield" category and was given a "National class" rating. At the top of the pile was Florian Wirtz (Bayer 04 Leverkusen), who was the only Bundesliga player in "International class".
