No points in Munich

TSG Hoffenheim battled hard but were ultimately heavily beaten in a 4-0 (2-0) defeat away to FC Bayern Munich on Matchday 9. The Bavarians dominated the opening stages and took an early 2-0 lead. TSG then had a better foothold in the game but could not manage to get a goal back.

Personnel & tactics:

Head coach Sebastian Hoeness made two changes to the starting XI that thrashed 1. FC Cologne 5-0, with Kevin Akpoguma and Jacob Bruun Larsen replacing Pavel Kadeřábek and Christoph Baumgartner. An unchanged back three of Stefan Posch, Florian Grillitsch and Chris Richards protected goalkeeper Oliver Baumann, while Akpoguma and David Raum started at wing-back. Dennis Geiger and Diadie Samassékou operated centrally in front of the defence, with Bebou and Bruun Larsen out wide and Andrej Kramarić spearheading the attack.

Injury forced TSG into making their first change of the match in the 27th minute, with Akpoguma taking a knock and being replaced by Georginio Rutter. Bebou dropped back to support Posch on the right at this point. TSG made a double change in the second period, bringing on Robert Skov and Sebastian Rudy for Bruun Larsen and Samassékou (57). With the score at 3-0, Angelo Stiller and Sargis Adamyan came on for Geiger and Bebou (82).

Moment of the match:

The third goal on 82 minutes: TSG were well in the game at the time and created several opportunities, but Choupo-Moting's strike to make it 3-0 killed off the game.

Number of the game: 3

Hoffenheim are next in competitive action in only three days' time: TSG will play host to second-tier Holstein Kiel in the second round of the DFB-Pokal on Tuesday evening (kick-off at 18:30 CET).

Match highlights

2. Min.

The first major chance of the match already: Müller plays it through to Lewandowski, who gets the better of his marker and lifts the ball over Baumann – but it's wide of the mark. Lucky.

16. Min.

Bayern link up brilliantly on the edge of the Hoffenheim penalty area and open the scoring. Musiala squares the ball to Gnabry, who beats Baumann with a low drive from a centre-right position.

30. Min.

TSG lose the ball in the opposition penalty area and are then hit on the counter ruthlessly. Müller holds off Richards following a long ball downfield and he squares it to fellow forward Lewandowski, who curls home from range.

43. Min.

Posch slips over and the ball runs through to Lewandowski. He's clean through on Baumann, but the goalkeeper makes a strong save with his foot.

50. Min.

Almost a goal back there. A cross from Raum is cleared straight to the feet of Bebou, who hits the ball on the volley. It sails narrowly wide of goal, however. Shame, best TSG chance so far.

71. Min.

Another opportunity to pull a goal back: Raum cuts the ball back beautifully from the byline towards Rutter, who hits it first time but fires just over the bar.

81. Min.

There's no real threat as TSG attempt to clear a corner  but the clearance strikes a Bayern player and falls to the unmarked Choupo-Moting, who has an easy finish.

87. Min.

Bayern play a long ball to Coman, who is clean through and keeps his composure in front of goal to make it 4-0.
