Friendly double-header against Mainz 05

The preparations for the 2020/21 season will continue on Saturday, when TSG Hoffenheim will play two friendly fixtures (13:00 CET and 15:30 CET) against fellow Bundesliga club 1. FSV Mainz 05.

1. FSV Mainz 05 spent much of last season fighting against relegation. In fact, coach Achim Beierlorzer's charges only secured their top-flight status on Matchday 33 courtesy of a 3-1 victory over Werder Bremen.

Beierlorzer made his debut in the Mainz dugout on Matchday 12 last season, beating TSG 5-1 in his first match in charge. However, Hoffenheim won the return fixture 1-0 thanks to a goal from Ihlas Bebou.

Reunion with Ádám Szalai

On Saturday afternoon (13:00 CET and 15:30 CET), TSG will be reunited with Ádám Szalai. The forward played for TSG Hoffenheim between 2014 and 2019. He made 113 competitive appearances for the Kraichgau club, scoring 25 goals, before joining Mainz in the summer of 2019.

The FC Zuzenhausen sports complex, the same venue that was used for the friendly against SV Wehen Wiesbaden, will host the double-header. Both matches will last the usual duration of 90 minutes.

TSG Hoffenheim's first competitive game of the season will follow on 12 September when they travel to Chemnitzer FC in the First Round of the DFB Cup. The 2020/21 Bundesliga campaign then kicks off a week later with a visit to 1. FC Cologne (19 September/15:30 CET).
