Good news ahead of the new season - #Süle2019

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim have extended the contract of Niklas Süle for an additional two years ahead of the new season. The 19-year-old Germany U21 international has committed himself to TSG until June 30th 2019.

"Niklas Süle’s contract extension is not only great news for the club, but also for the fans," said TSG sporting director Alexander Rosen. The fans celebrated news of the down-to-earth centre back’s contract renewal when he took to the field at the WIRSOL Rhein-Neckar-Arena for the club’s first open training session of the new season. "Niklas is a real gem, as he proved last season. The past months also showed that he has tremendous mental strength for a 19-year-old," praised Rosen, who was referring to his recent long-term lay-off.

Süle tore the ACL in his left knee on 12th December 2014 during the Bundesliga game against Eintracht Frankfurt. The defender, who first joined Hoffenheim's U15 side back in 2010, has been working hard on his comeback to the first-team squad since then. "His attitude during this difficult time was truly exemplary. It was very impressive for someone so young," explained Rosen.

"Obviously this is a huge honour," said Süle. "The contract extension allows me the chance to keep working hard here and developing as a player and a person. TSG have a perfect infrastructure which allows the officials and entire staff to work in ideal conditions."

Markus Gisdol was also impressed with Süle's recovery: "The way he took this set back on board, the amount of optimism that was reflected from him and how strong he has managed to come back are all highly impressive. It's definitely not something you take for granted at such a young age." His decision to continue his career at Hoffenheim is a testament to his down-to-earth character and desire to progress individually and experience success with the team," according to Gisdol.

Niklas Süle has made 42 Bundesliga appearances for TSG, bagging five goals in the process. In five DFB Cup appearances, he has scored one goal. For Germany's youth national teams (U16-U21), Süle made a total of 32 appearances.
