International report: Poland lose to Ukraine

There were no success stories on Friday for TSG's international players. Eugen Polanski lost with Poland, Filip Malbasic suffered defeat with the Serbia U21s against the Netherlands and Stephan Schröck was unable to play; the Philippines' opponents Brunei had to withdraw from their AFC Challenge Cup qualifier.

Eugen Polanski's side suffered a painful defeat in their quest for Brazil, losing their 2014 World Cup qualifier to Ukraine 3-1. Poland have now lost ground on the teams at the top of the table, Montenegro and England. With just five points picked up after four games, qualifying for the World Cup is starting to look difficult. Polanski couldn't play due to suspension, but is hoping to be involved for the game against San Marino on Tuesday. “We deserved to lose. We were 2-0 down after seven minutes, so that naturally makes it difficult. We got into the game more after we pulled one back but their third goal right before half time killed the match. We hardly had a chance in the second half,” said Polanski to achtzehn99.de

Qualification for the AFC Challenge Cup didn't go quite as planned for Stephan Schröck and the Philippines – Brunei didn't appear for their game in Manila. They withdrew at the last minute due to “unavoidable circumstances” and will now have to face the sanctions of the Asian FA. Brunei are now disqualified from this year's round of qualifiers.

Filip Malbasic lost 2-1 with the Serbia U21 side against their Dutch counterparts. The Netherlands scored the winning goal just before the final whistle. The Hoffenheim striker was brought on in the 55th minute. The USA won without Daniel Williams and Fabian Johnson who had to pull out of the squad due to injury. The Americans were 1-0 winners against Costa Rica in Denver, with the match also being interrupted for a short period due to heavy snowfall.
