During the winter break in the 2008-09 season, journalists and experts alike were wondering whether Ibisevic would break the record set by the great Gerd Müller of 40 league goals in a single Bundesliga season. But then, tragedy struck Bosnian international. In a friendly game against Hamburger SV, Vedo suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury and was ruled out for the rest of the season, unable to add to his tally of 18 goals.

Three years later, he is one short of his 50th Bundesliga goal. But it won't be in the colours of 1899 Hoffenheim that he reaches that milestone. Yesterday, Ibisevic agreed a deal to sign for neighbouring VfB Stuttgart, citing the wish to embark upon a new challenge as his reason for seeking pastures new. “I've had a great time here at Hoffenheim. The club have always supported me. I'd like to thank Ralf Rangnick and Holger Stanislawski and I wish the team every success in the future”, said the departing Ibisevic.

Vedo scored 55 goals in 139 games for Hoffenheim, after signing from Alemannia Aachen in the summer 2007. 1899 wishes him the best of luck for this chapter in his career at VfB Stuttgart.
