Cup elimination: TSG go out to Leipzig in last 16

TSG Hoffenheim have been eliminated from the DFB-Pokal following a 3-1 (2-0) round of 16 defeat at RB Leipzig. Emil Forsberg put the side from Saxony into an early lead (8), with Konrad Laimer doubling the advantage shortly before half-time (41). Kasper Dolberg pulled a goal back for TSG on 76 minutes, only for Timo Werner to end Hoffenheim's cup aspirations with a goal to make it 3-1 in the 84th minute.

The scenario:

Leipzig eliminated opposition from Hamburg in both of the opening two rounds. RB came out clear winners against FC Teutonia Ottensen in the first round (8-0), before beating Hamburger SV 4-0 in the second round. TSG got through the first round in Rödinghausen (2-0 AET), then thrashed FC Schalke 04 by a 5-1 scoreline in the second round.

The line-up:

André Breitenreiter made four changes to the starting XI that lost 4-1 to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga last time out. Kevin Akpoguma came in to replace the injured Pavel Kadeřábek. Umut Tohumcu made his first ever start for the senior team and began instead of Sebastian Rudy (bench). Ihlas Bebou and Munas Dabbur also came into the team for Tom Bischof and Kasper Dolberg (both bench).

Number of the game: 8

For the eighth season in a row, TSG Hoffenheim failed to reach the DFB-Pokal quarter-finals. We will give it another go next year.

Moment of the match:

The 81st minute: Munas Dabbur won the ball back in the opposition penalty area and only narrowly missed the target. It would have been the equaliser. Timo Werner then sealed the 3-1 win for Leipzig shortly afterwards.

Debut appearance:

Thomas Delaney came off the bench to replace Kevin Akpoguma for the second half and made his debut in a TSG shirt. Kasper Dolberg also scored his first goal for Hoffenheim.
