Defensively strong Wolves

On Saturday (15:30 CET / Live Ticker at tsg-hoffenheim.de), TSG Hoffenheim will go up against the team with the best defensive record in the Bundesliga this season. Coach Sebastian Hoeness and his team will be hoping to end their four-match winless run by beating VfL Wolfsburg – which they did when they faced the Wolves in the second half of last season. Ahead of the meeting with the side in second, we have compiled all the important facts and figures you need to know about #TSGWOB below.

Did you know that…

…TSG ended a negative run of results in their last meeting with the Wolves?

The last meeting between Hoffenheim and Wolfsburg came on Matchday 24 of the 2020/21 season. And it ended well for TSG, who had not won any of their previous five matches against the men from Lower Saxony. Christoph Baumgartner and Andrej Kramarić scored the goals in a 2-1 win against a VfL side in third place at the time.

…Wolfsburg have made a characteristically strong start to the season?

As was the case in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 campaigns, VfL are unbeaten in their first five matches of the season. In fact, Wolfsburg's first defeat last term did not come until Matchday 12, when they lost 2-1 in Munich.

…the Green & Whites have a particularly outstanding defensive record at the moment?

Coach Mark van Bommel's side have conceded only two goals in their opening five Bundesliga fixtures. That defensive record – the joint-best in the division along with 1. FSV Mainz 05 – has seen VfL equal their previous club record from the 2015/16 campaign.

…Andrej Kramarić is currently shining in an unfamiliar role?

These days, TSG's record goalscorer is predominantly setting up his team-mates to score. Along with Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz, he is currently the top provider in the league with four assists. He is still waiting for his first goal of the campaign, however.

…TSG should be particularly wary if they take the lead?

VfL Wolfsburg have taken four points from games this season in which they have been behind. No other club in the Bundesliga has picked up as many points as the Wolves from losing positions.
