Bogarde: "I'm happy to be back on the pitch"

Around a week ago, TSG Hoffenheim extended the contract of talented defender Melayro Bogarde until the summer of 2024. In a chat with following the start of training for the 2021/22 campaign, the 19-year-old was in the best of spirits and fully motivated for the coming season.

Melayro, the preparations for the 2021/22 season began on Sunday. How was it?

"Things are finally getting going again. I'm very happy that pre-season has started and the ball is rolling again. The break felt very long. I'm happy to be back here and on the pitch."

How have the first sessions been for you?

"Everything has been great so far. There's been a lot of action, but the really intense sessions are still to come. In the training camp in particular, we'll be properly put through our paces."

You've extended your contract with TSG until 2024. What prompted you to take this step?

"I'm in the best place to continue my development. The coaching team, the staff and my team-mates are all very friendly and have always treated me very well since I joined. I just feel very comfortable at TSG and I'm glad to continue playing here going forward."

You made a total of 14 appearances for the first team last season. What are your objectives for this season?

"I hope that I'll get some playing time under my belt this season and I want to make a contribution to us having a successful season."

You're a highly versatile player, where do you believe that you can help the team the most?

"I feel very comfortable in the centre, whether in central defence or midfield. But I can also help out on the right side of defence. As long as I have the chance to get match practice at a high level, my position is secondary."
