Hoeness: "I'm expecting a hard-fought match"

A day after their comfortable 5-0 victory over Slovan Liberec, TSG Hoffenheim have already turned their attentions to their Bundesliga trip to VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday (15:30 CET). Prior to facing the Wolves, head coach Sebastian Hoeness spoke about the weekend's game, his observations from the Liberec match and the upcoming international break.

Sebastian Hoeness on…

…the game on Sunday: "I'm expecting a hard-fought match. They haven't lost a Bundesliga game yet but they've also won only once. Wolfsburg are narrowly above us in the table and have a lot of very strong players in their ranks. They have a good structure and are solid off the ball. They're still lacking that finishing touch in front of goal. It'll be hugely important for us that we're up to the task from the first second."

…the difference between the Europa League and Bundesliga: "The performances in the Bundesliga have been decent. We would've picked up more points had the games gone more favourably for us. In Gent, however, we had the luck on our side in the first half. We also need to make that happen for us in the Bundesliga."

…the victory against Slovan Liberec: "The sporting lessons we could learn are limited. However, it was important that we won and pushed the door to the next round wide open. It did us good that we were able to manage the workload and that we came through the match without injuries. It was a positive evening for us."

…the international break: "All players who are fit will be released to their national team. We have no room for manoeuvre there. It's a very difficult topic in the current situation. But our focus now is on the game on Sunday."

The opposition's form:

VfL Wolfsburg may be yet to lose a game this season, but they have only picked up one victory while their other five matches have ended in stalemate. The Wolves sit in 11th place with eight points.

Head-to-head record:

VfL Wolfsburg have proven to be something of a bogey team for TSG Hoffenheim in recent years, with the Kraichgau club winning only one of the past eight meetings between the clubs (four draws and three defeats). Their record is even worse at the Volkswagen Arena, where they have won on just one of their previous 12 visits.
