Belfodil to undergo operation

The Algeria international suffered the injury during the final match of last season, a 4-2 defeat away to Mainz. It initially seemed that a conservative treatment would suffice for the injury to heal. Belfodil made his return to the side for the first game of the current campaign, a 1-0 defeat in Frankfurt. However, he complained of renewed pain after the 1-1 draw away to VfL Wolfsburg. Not long afterwards, a bout of severe tonsillitis kept him bed-bound for several days. 

''It's been clear to us since the end of last week that Ishak will require a knee operation. It's a tricky situation. The injury is a complicated one and we've heard several different opinions from various experts. I'm not in a position to comment on the medical ins and outs. We regret that Ishak will be forced to sit on the sidelines for a spell and we wish him all the best for his recovery. We will be there to support him every step of the way,'' said TSG Director of Football Alexander Rosen.
