Joelinton set for spell on sidelines

A comprehensive examination by the TSG Hoffenheim medical department and an MRI scan in Heidelberg have revealed that Joelinton has torn the anterior syndesmosis in his left ankle.

The 22-year-old striker went to ground in the second half of the 4-1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen on Friday night and had to be substituted. The Brazilian, who in his 33 appearances in all competitions this season has 11 goals and nine assists (26/7/7 in the Bundesliga, 5/1/1 in the Champions League and 2/3/1 in the DFB Cup), is now set for a spell on the sidelines.

"It's obviously a bitter pill to swallow both for Joe and for us," said TSG director of football Alexander Rosen of the striker's injury. The inconvenience felt by his absence attests to the fact that Joelinton has "developed outstandingly" and is "one of the biggest discoveries of the Bundesliga season". Rosen added that "we will do absolutely everything to ensure he will available to us in the run-in".
