Dominant TSG win in Augsburg

After all was said and done on Saturday afternoon, Hoffenheim came away with a 2-0 victory against FC Augsburg. Andrej Kramaric and Serge Gnabry were the goalscorers for Julian Nagelsmann’s side on matchday 23. And with the win, Nagelsmann equaled Ralf Rangnick’s record for most Bundesliga wins as TSG head coach.

Personnel and tactics

TSG head coach Julian Nagelsmann made two changes to the side that drew 1-1 to Freiburg last week: Lukas Rupp and Nico Schulz replaced Adam Szalai and Robert Zulj. They were joined on the pitch by Oliver Baumann, Pavel Kaderabek, Florian Grillitsch, Benjamin Hübner, Kevin Vogt, Kevin Akpoguma, Andrej Kramaric, Serge Gnabry and Dennis Geiger.

Baumann started in the Hoffenheim goal, with captain Vogt, Hubner and Akpoguma in a back-three ahead of him. Kaderabek and Schulz started the game on the flanks and would drop back into defence when the opposition had the ball. Florian Grillitsch was in the middle of the park, with Rupp and Geiger either side of him, who pushed up to support Kramaric and Gnabry in attack.

Julian Nagelsmann made his first change in the 63rd minute, when Mark Uth came on for Serge Gnabry in attack. Just one minute later, Nagelsmann made his second change, with Nadiem Amiri taking Lukas Rupp’s place on the pitch. The final change came in the 73rd minute, as Adam Szalai came on for Andrej Kramaric.

Moment of the game

In the 56th minute, when TSG were leading the game 2-0, Nico Schulz played a ball to, no, beyond Oliver Baumann. The ball trickled just wide of the Hoffenheim goal, luckily. Sometimes, things just go your way.

Number of the game: 32

Julian Nagelsmann celebrated his 32nd win in the Bundesliga as Hoffenheim head coach against FC Augsburg, which now draws him level with Ralf Rangnick. The current RB Leipzig sporting director also collected 32 Bundesliga wins during his tenure as head coach of TSG. Rangnick needed 85 games to reach that mark, Nagelsmann only 73!
