Zuber & Kramaric qualify for World Cup!

The European qualifier play-offs for Russia 2018 had a happy ending for TSG stars Steven Zuber and Andrej Kramaric on Sunday evening. Both have booked their place at this summer’s tournament with their countries.

Having beaten Greece 4-1 in Zagreb on Thursday, Kramaric’s Croatia were able to secure qualification in the second leg in Piräus with a goalless draw. The TSG forward, who contributed to the goals in the first leg, told achtzehn99.de ahead of both games that he was "desperate to make it to Russia 2018. That is our aspiration." In Piräus, Kramatic was brought on in the 78th minute and helped his team see out the game.

For Steven Zuber’s Switzerland, the second leg of their qualifier against Northern Ireland, following a 1-0 win in the first leg, proved to be a much harder piece of work. Through the pouring rain in Basel, Switzerland managed to book their place at the World Cup, seeing out a 0-0 draw in what was an intense and emotional game. Steven Zuber played the whole 90 minutes and had two good chances to score in the first half. Despite the weather conditions, both sides were able to create numerous chances, but failed to convert any over the course of the game.

Rodriguez saves the day

A goal for the hosts would have made it a much more comfortable evening, but as things stood, former Wolfsburg man Ricardo Rodriguez had to save Switzerland in stoppage time. The scorer of the only goal in the first leg made himself the hero once again after clearing an Ireland header off the line with goalkeeper Yann sommer beaten.
Switzerland’s online portal ’20 Minuten’ wrote the following about Zuber’s performance in their World Cup qualifier: "When everything stops, Zuber gets going – and how! The former GC man has really learnt how to graft and battle in Hoffenheim, but he also scores goals and delivers accurate crosses. There is currently no one better in his position.
