Andreas Beck: "TSG will always be special"

He was TSG captain for years, made almost 250 appearances for "Hoffe" and will always be a part of Blue-White history - Andreas Beck. Now he is facing TSG for the first time, in a friendly with his new club Besiktas - and he recently became a father. Reason enough to speak to him...

Hello Andreas, after almost 250 matches for TSG, you will face „Hoffe“ for the first time on Wednesday. A strange feeling?

Andreas Beck: It is definitely very unusual, but I am looking forward to the reunion with many old friends and familiar faces.

You won the title in your first season in Turkey. It couldn’t have gone much better…

Beck:
That’s true. You always have an idea of what you want to achieve in the future when you move to a new club. I seemed to have achieved that already. It was a fantastic season, and we ended it by bringing the title home to our fans. The celebrations were unbelievable – I have never experienced anything like it.

In Mario Gomez, an old companion of yours has left the club. Can you understand his decision?

Beck:
It is obviously a shame, because we got on really well on and off the pitch. But I don’t want to judge. That is Mario’s personal decision.

Do you still have contact with people in Hoffenheim and TSG?

Beck:
Of course, that is something I will never lose. TSG will always be a special club to me. I have experienced so many things with the club – that creates a special bond. And that will last a long time.

How far are you into your preparation and what are your plans for next season?

Beck:
We only took on training about two weeks ago, so we are still at the start. Our goal is obviously to keep playing attacking football, and if possible, to defend the title. And we also want to put in some good performances in the Champions League. The whole club and all the fans are really excited to play in this competition. We are massively looking forward to it.

Heidelberg or Istanbul – Which city wins and why?

Beck:
Even if I wanted to, it would be impossible to compare them with each other – they are two completely different worlds. But I find that both have their own unique charm.
