Vladimir Darida: "TSG play very good football"

From relegation side to Champions League contenders. Vladimir Darida has made a big leap after his transfer from Freiburg to Hertha. The 25-year-old midfielder has made an impact at the capital club. We spoke to him ahead of TSG’s encounter with Hertha.

You came from peaceful and quiet Freiburg to a world city / how do you like it in the amongst the hustle and bustle of the capital?

Vladimir Darida: I like it a lot. My girlfriend likes it here too because there are so many opportunities. Just things like food – you can go to a new great restaurant every night or go to the cinema and see everything, even in its original version. It’s just a bit easier for us here.

You’ve settled into your football well here too. Why are you and Hertha such a good fit?

Darida: It’s difficult to say. Before the transfer I spoke to coach Pál Dárdai and he said that I was exactly the player he needed for his system. It seems like he was right. Everything is just easy here.

You’re going to the European Championships in summer with the Czech Republic. How much are you looking forward to it?

Darida: I’m looking forward to it more and more as it gets closer. I’ve taken part in a competition like that once before, it was a great experience. But at the moment I’m concentrated on Hertha and the last five games of the season. After that I can begin to think about the European Championships.

Next year you could come up against the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris St. Germain. Have you thought about Champions League football?

Darida: No. There are five tricky games left for us and only after those can we see where we stand.

The next task is against TSG. What do you expect from the game?

Darida: I think it’ll be a good game. Since the new manager came they’ve played good football and have quick transitional play. As with every Bundesliga game it’ll be difficult for us. If we want to stay high in the table, though, we’ll need three points.
