Sebastian Rudy: Positive vibes are important

Sebastian Rudy was once again in the starting XI during TSG’s last Bundesliga match against Schalke 04. He’s desperate to hold onto his place in the team and doing plenty to ensure exactly that at the training camp. Achtzehn99.de spoke to Rudy about his motivation, hopes and the afternoon’s friendly against Platinum Stars.

How are you feeling after the first few days in South Africa?

Sebastian Rudy: I’m obviously feeling the strain of the training camp and the intensive sessions, but that is normal. We’re gaining strength here in order to be 100% fit for the first game. We’re here to reach the highest possible levels of fitness. But today we are looking forward to the game.

This afternoon you face the Platinum Stars – what do you expect from the game?

Rudy: It’s going to be very exhausting. Last year we played against a very good South African team and I think today will be similar. The opponent will hold us off well and make it difficult. They are midway through their season and have their match rhythm. We need to listen to the manager and react to his instructions. We want to stand strong and not give away any chances and then counter quickly and reach the other teams goal as quickly as possible.

In the first half of the season you didn’t play as much as you would definitely have liked. What are you doing to change that?

Rudy: I push myself further to perform more consistently and improve myself further. There are many areas that once can improve themselves in. Most of all I want to be more stable on the pitch and stay consistent. I’m making good progress I think; I already took a big step forward against Schalke. I want to build on that and prove that I have to be in the team.

You’re very motivated on the training pitch, you support your teammates and get stuck in...

Rudy: Of course. That’s what we need. We want to get away from the relegation zone. And we need to show that determination here on the training pitch. It’s important to go into training and game with positive vibes.

What are your hopes for the rest of the season?

Rudy: Obviously I hope that we can climb up the table as quickly as possible. That’s the most important thing. In order to do that we have to work as a team, stand strong and most importantly take our chances. We will get our teeth stuck into the rest of the season and fight to stay in the league.
